Might wanna hear my Ron Paul interview at:

http://www.theamericanview.com/dictator/media/898/aview_20070825.mp3

Hope you visit our Reformed site, please. Here’s our “Mission Statement” and a brief bio of myself, the Editor of TheAmericanView.com. God bless you all – and He does when we obey Him.
Mission Statement
“For the nation and kingdom that shall not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.” — Isaiah 60:12.

As Christians, we are commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ to teach all nations — including ours — to observe all things He has commanded (Matthew 28:18-20). This means bringing into captivity to Christ all areas of life and thought. This means destroying arguments that are against the knowledge of God (II Corinthians 10:5). In obedience to these commands of our Lord, this Web site is established. We covet your prayers for our success in obeying Him.

We are seriously concerned about, deeply grieved by and lament the fact that far too many of today’s so-called “Christian leaders” are a sinful embarrassment and are responsible for the cause of Christ being mocked and ridiculed. By being, first, cheerleaders for the Republican Party, they have dishonored their Lord and sold their Christian birthright for a mess of partisan political pottage. These individuals and organizations are Christian in name only, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” From such, it is added, we must turn away.

Secular, Christless conservatism — even when it is supposedly “compassionate” — will not defeat secular, Christless liberalism because to God they are two atheistic peas-in-a-pod and, thus, predestined to failure.

More than 100 years ago, speaking of the secular, Christless conservatism of his time, the great Southern Presbyterian theologian, Robert L. Dabney, observed:

“[Its] history has been that it demurs to each aggression of the progressive party, and aims to save its credit by a respectable amount of growling, but always acquiesces at last in the innovation. What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution, to be denounced and then adopted in its turn. American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward to perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. This pretended salt hath utterly lost its savor: wherewith shall it be salted? Its impotency is not hard to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It tends to risk nothing serious for the sake of truth.”

Amen! And what Dabney says has been proven with a vengeance in modern times, under recent Republican Administrations and Congresses who were supported enthusiastically by individuals and organizations who called themselves “Christian” but who, alas, when judged by their fruits, were not.

To those who will accuse of us of desiring and trying to bring about “a Christian America,” we unashamedly plead guilty though the accusation is far too modest and somewhat muddled. To be sure, we desire a Christian America, and a Christian world, a Christian galaxy and a Christian universe. And, over time, by His grace, we hope to demonstrate that all these things already belong to the Lord Jesus Christ because He created them all and they are His property. This is why all knees must bow to the Lord and all tongues confess that He is the Lord — because He is!

Jude 1:3 3

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (KJV)

Government regulation of the internet is such a ridiculous notion. Child porn is the most often cited example for the need to regulate the internet and yet it is nothing more than an excuse for the government to gain control of this medium of communication.

Child porn is already illegal, it is already "regulated". Consider this, if I commit murder on video and then upload it to YouTube, I have broken the law. The law I broke was murder, not the posting of that video on YouTube. We do not need to regulate the internet to prevent murderers from posting their videos, we need to prosecute murderers. Likewise, we do not need to regulate the internet to prevent pornographers from uploading their videos, we need to prosecute child molesting pornographers.

It is similar to gun laws. We do not need to regulate the guns, we need to prosecute the criminals who use them.

Probably preaching to the choir here, but you got me fired up!

Karla,

Rowling's comments that Dumbledore is gay is nothing more than her attempt at further publicity. There is not a chance that anyone could read through the series and ever come away with the idea the he is gay. Whatever she thinks now, it never ever came out in her writing. There are many who think (and I agree) that stories have a certain sovereignty to them that overrides the author's wishes. What I mean is that once a character is realized, the author loses the ability to make it do something contrary to the character. Dumbledore falls onto the pages as the character he is, and any intent on Rowling's part to make him into something else would fail -- this may be why he never turned out gay. I will try to post more on this idea soon.

Regarding the "tolerance" and "questioning authority" theme it is somewhat true. But, I don't think Rowling ever puts forward the idea that one must always question authority in a rebellious or anarchist sense--that would be unchristian. But, she does put it forward in what I would describe as a Biblical way of doing so. When Harry Potter rebels against his aunt and uncle, you feel for him because of the way he is mistreated by them, but you aren't forced to root him on in it, and it isn't put forth in a positive light. But, when Potter and Dumbledore are rebelling against the corrupt Ministry of Magic and its usurpation of authority, you know that they are right. You know they are like Moses' mother was to question the authority of Pharaoh.

All this aside, what it really boils down to is that Christians need to be trained to read and discern that which is good from that which is bad. As I read through this series I did just that, and now as my children read through it, I make it a point to talk them through, teaching them how to discern these things--to recognize the good and the bad in it. Just last night my ten-year old, who is reading through book six, stopped me and began explaining to me what was unscriptural about something Harry Potter had just done. The more they can discern, the safer they are.

Questions....I have not read the series. I was considering it simply because all of our newly found reformed friends love it. Then I read an article quoting Rowling's comments on Dumbledore being gay. So how can we even try to compare a gay character(father-like or not) to our heavenly father? Does this news concerning Dumbledore change your review of the books in anyway?
The other thing that threw me in the article was Rowling stating that her main themes were "tolerence" and "questioning authority." Was this the overiding theme that you took from the book?
Here's the article:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071020/ap_on_en_ot/books_harry_potter

Thanks for your help,
