To Multiply or Not to Multiply

…that is the question!
A friend of mine (Thanks Brandy!) pointed out this insane article she read in a recent Newsweek magazine. Apparently, there is this group out there called the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement. VHEM preaches things like:
“Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.”
“Regardless of our superficial differences, we are all Homo sapiens. As long as extinctions of wildlife continue at an outrageous pace, the intentional creation of another one of us can’t be justified.”
“However, if any of us thinks about the situation long enough, and makes the effort to work through those socially-instilled blocks to clear thinking, we will arrive at virtually the same conclusion: we should voluntarily phase ourselves out for the good of humanity and planet.”
As Christians, it should be obvious to us that these principles are at COMPLETE odds with the Holy Scriptures. As logical, thinking creatures it should be obvious to us that it cannot be good for humanity to bring humanity to extinction! VHEM preaches this under the motto of, “May we live long and die out!” Scripturally, it is clear that man is called to multiply and fill the earth with little bearers of God’s image, that man is to view children as an heritage of the Lord, as His blessings to us. As VHEM-ers, it is clear that we are to see ourselves as nuisances to this earth. Why we should continue to live without procreating is unclear, but this is their motto!
Ironically, God-haters are not united in this front. Battle Axe has shared with me another blog that promotes increased procreation among atheists! According to this group, Christians are procreating in record numbers as part of a political move to take over, therefore atheists should follow suit to prevent this from happening.
Of course, their worldview, as seen above, will not allow for them to do so successfully. One cannot promote abortion and homosexuality, no-fault divorce and a complete disregard for family values while succesfully raising households of well-adjusted children! Ironically, these atheists see the necessity in opposing abortion and homosexuality and promoting Biblical marriage and family values in order to accomplish their goals, yet cannot do so in accordance with their worldview!
No, the Christian is not multiplying for political purposes, but rather because he sees that is a blessing from God. And fear not, Christian, the God-haters will live themselves to extinction, while the Godly continue to bear the image of God and exercise dominion over the creation.
